BANGA COMMITS TO WINDSOR
Trenton Golden Hawks forward Sammy Banga (photo credit - Shawn Muir/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the University of Windsor Lancers beginning with the 2013-14 OUA season.
After playing in his hometown for the Windsor Jr. Spitfires Midget 'AAA' club, Banga would play two seasons from 2009-11 with the nearby LaSalle Vipers Junior 'B' club. He made the jump to the OJHL as a 19 year old with the Markham Waxers in 2011-12 and tasted immediate success. finishing tied for second on the club with 24 goals and third with 57 points in 49 games played. He then led the Waxers with 8 assists and 11 points in nine playoff games. During the off-season, Banga moved on to the Hamilton Red Wings when the Waxers operations were suspended for the season, but before playing a single game with the club, he was traded east to the veteran Trenton Golden Hawks organization. One of the key cogs in the G'Hawks powerhouse, Banga finished second in scoring with 51 points in 50 games played, including a team-high five game-winning goals to help lead the club to the OJHL regular season title and a top ranking in Canada.
