Dylan Hutton’s (photo credit - Amy Deroche/OJHL Images) first goal of the playoffs was a big one.

The Kingston Voyageurs forward scored at 5:35 of the first overtime period to give the Voyageurs a 3-2 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes in the opening game of the Ontario Junior Hockey League North-East Conference Final at the Invista Centre on Wednesday night.

Hutton’s winner capped a three-goal comeback by the Vees, who trailed 2-0 less than 16 minutes into the game.

Michael Schug and Graham Yeo scored second-period goals to pull the Vees even after the Hurricanes’ Elliott Burlon scored twice in the first period.

Burlon opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:37 and scored again at 15:35.

Schug got the Vees on the scoreboard with his second goal of the post-season, at 3:12 of the middle period.

Yeo, with his eighth of the playoffs, tied the score at 14:34.

Kingston goalie Charlie Finn stopped 31 shots to post his ninth win of the playoffs.

Hurricanes goalie Matthew Wintjes, a 2009 draft pick (13th round) of the Kingston Frontenacs, made 40 saves.

The teams play in Newmarket Saturday night before returning to Kingston for Game 3 on Sunday, also a 7 p.m. start.

The Voyageurs entered the series opener on a two-game winning streak and with victories in seven of their past eight playoff games.

The Hurricanes won four of six regular-season meetings, including three by shutout, against the Voyageurs. Newmarket was the only team to sport a winning record against the Vees during the regular season, although the Vees won the final two meetings.
