The native of Markham, Ontario joined the OJHL as an affiliated midget in 2008-09 with the Whitby Fury, playing five games and recording his first junior point, an assist versus the Vaughan Vipers on November 8, 2008. The following year, Gottschalk AP'd with the Ajax Attack, playing nine games on their defensive corps before joining the league full-time in 2010-11 with the Aurora Tigers. Notching one assist in 23 games played with the club, the lanky rearguard was traded mid-season to the St. Michael's Buzzers, where he would get his first taste of junior playoff action. After starting the 2011-12 season with the Buzzers, Gottschalk was on the move again after only six games, this time to his hometown Waxers. Markham would be susspended from play for the 2012-13 season and the well-traveled veteran joined the Hamilton Red Wings and once again, after only 14 games played, would be traded to his seventh OJHL club, joining the Lindsay Muskies for the stretch drive. After five seasons and well over 100 OJHL contests, Gottschalk finally notched his first career goal during the Muskies playoff run, scoring against the eventual conference champion Newmarket Hurricanes in game three of their second round series.
Congratulations to Kurt on a tremendous junior career and best of luck as he moves on to the next level!
