DIAMOND SIGNS WITH NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Former Hamilton Red Wings forward Joey Diamond (pictured with Hamilton Red Wings - photo credit: Craig Campbell/HHOF Images), who recently finished his career with the University of Maine Black Bears, signed recently with the New York Islanders organization. 

The native of Long Beach, New York joined the Hamilton Red Wings for the 2008-09 OJHL season after playing previously with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL.  Diamond would finish second on the club with 42 goals and fourth overall in scoring with 76 points in 45 games played.  Following the season, he joined Maine to start his NCAA career and is currently the club's senior captain.

The New York Islanders announced today that forward Joey Diamond has agreed to terms on a one-year, entry-level contract.

Diamond, 23, scored two goals with three assists, while recording 27 penalty minutes in 10 games since joining the Sound Tigers on an amateur tryout contract (ATO) on March 22. The Long Beach, NY native signed with the Sound Tigers following his senior season at the University of Maine, where he posted 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists) and 147 penalty minutes in 33 games for the Black Bears.

The 5’8, 175-pound forward concluded his four-year career at Maine with 104 points (59 goals, 45 assists) and 467 penalty minutes in 135 games with the Black Bears. Prior to attending the University of Maine, Diamond played three seasons of junior hockey, compiling 113 points (60 goals, 53 assists) in 99 games split between the New York Apple Core (Eastern Junior Hockey League), Omaha Lancers (United States Hockey League) and Hamilton Red Wings (Ontario Junior Hockey League).
