St. Michael's Buzzers forward Jordan Merante (photo credit - Mike Ivall/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the York University Lions beginning with the 2013-14 OUA season.

The native of Hockley Valley, Ontario joined the OJHL out of the Vaughan Kings Midget 'AAA' program with the nearby Vaughan Vipers as a 17-year old rookie in 2009-10.  Merante would spend the next three seasons with the Vipers, posting consistent offensive numbers, while providing a defensive presence with an edge to help the club capture the 2010-11 regular season South Division crown.  With Vaughan suspending operations following the 2011-12 season, Merante was off to the Hamilton Red Wings for his final season of junior hockey.  With the Red Wings off to a slow start and the roster in a state of flux, Merante would be traded to the St. Michael's Buzzers after posting 18 points in 20 games played.  He would improve on those numbers with his new squad, recording 20 assists and 23 points in only 21 games played to finish the year with a career-high 41 point season.  Merante's biggest influence would be felt during the post-season as he provided a competitive edge, including 15 points in 24 games played, to help the Buzzers capture the Buckland Cup as OJHL Champions.

Congratulations to Jordan and best of luck in his university career!
