MARCHMENT COMMITS TO BELLEVILLE
Wellington Dukes forward Jake Marchment (photo credit - Dave Powers/OJHL Images), originally committed to join Canisius College next season, has committed to join the OHL's Belleville Bulls after they acquired his rights from North Bay recently.
Below is the official press release from the Belleville Bulls website (www.bellevillebulls.com):
Belleville Bulls Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett announced Tuesday that the club had acquired the rights to forward Jake Marchment from the North Bay Battalion in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.
A native of Courtice, Marchment was a member of the Bulls' Jr. A affiliate the Wellington Dukes last season, compiling 7 goals and 13 assists in 49 games. Standing 6 foot 3 and weighing in at 210Ibs., the 18 year-old centreman was a sixth round pick by Brampton in 2011.
"We received permission from North Bay to speak with Jake and his family and after much discussion he has expressed a keen interest to play for the Belleville Bulls," said Burnett of the acquisition. "Jake is capable of playing in both ends of the rink, uses his size and powerful skating stride to his advantage and likes to play the game with an edge."
"Being a part of the Wellington Dukes program last season was a great experience," Marchment said following the trade. "I think I developed my game significantly under Head Coach Marty Abrams and was able to familiarize myself with the Quinte region. We went a little young as a team but I think we all gained from the approach the club took and gradually improved."
Marchment played his Midget hockey with the Clarington Toros AAA program and is familiar with a pair of Bulls from facing them in the past. "I had the opportunity to play against Jordan Subban and Aaron Berisha in Midget and I'm excited to suit up alongside players like that. They both possess a lot of skill and bring a real competitiveness to their game."
Marchment will be a part of the Bulls Summer Hockey School next week and will report to training camp on Wednesday, August 28th at the Quinte Sports Centre.
