Once again, the OJHL's annual Governors' Showcase weekend proved to be a huge success, highlighting the league's talent, along with some unveiling some new promotional pieces throughout the two day event.
After being hosted by the Cobourg Cougars the previous two years, the Oakville Blades stepped up to the plate and put on a first-class event, while also showcasing the fantastic Sixteen Mile Sports Complex facility that was opened in 2010. With more than 150 scouts from the NHL, NCAA, CHL and CIS taking in both days of the showcase, there is no question that it was a rousing success.
"On behalf of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, I would like to personally thank the Oakville Blades and their tremendous team of staff and volunteers for their tireless work and dedication this past weekend," said OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy. "This year's Showcase has proven to be one of the best ever with a record number of scouts in attendance, proof of not only the up-and-coming talent in the league, but the respect that the OJHL is restoring at the next level of the game."
Once again this year, the OJHL Images team was out in full force, not only capturing fantastic one-of-a-kind action photography of our young stars, but also taking all player head shots for the league's website. With a cutting-edge images program, the OJHL is postitioned better than any other Junior 'A' league to capitalize on promoting the league and its players through photography. One of the new features at this year's event saw the OJHL team with In The O Radio (www.intheoradio.com) for a live podcast, that saw their team do interviews with both coaches and players throughout the weekend. Led by Brandon Sudeyko (who covers the South Division for the website), the crew (including West Division writer Peter Kneulman & North Division writer Rino Mattucci) set-up in the Rink 1 concourse and all interviews will be available in the near future at their website. This, along with the group's weekly Divisional features, is another step in helping grow the OJHL brand.
