CAREY NAMED ECAC PLAYER OF WEEK
Former Burlington Cougar Greg Carey (photo credit - Tara Freeman/SLU), now with the St. Lawrence University Saints, was named the ECAC Player of the Week following his performance this past weekend.
The Hamilton, Ontario native would spend three seasons in the OJHL, all as a member of the Burlington Cougars, from 2007-10. The 17-year old rookie would make his first mark on the league, recording 22 points in 46 games played to earn a spot on the West Division Team that lost 4-3 at the 2008 Future Stars Game held in Orangeville, Ontario. Year two saw Carey become one of the club's leaders, finishing second with 32 goals and third on the club in scoring with 65 points, while this time being named to the MacKinnon-Phillips All-Star Team that would win the 2009 All-Star Game 6-3 at York University. Carey's final season would be his most successful as he would team with Josh Jooris to pile up points throughout the season. He finished the year as the CCHL's leading goal scorer with 72, the second highest total in league history (Steve Walker, Barrie - 75 goals 1992-93) and was second in overall scoring to Jooris with 114 points. The impressive performance would also see Carey earn a spot on Team Canada East to compete at the 2009 World Junior 'A' Challenge held in Summerside, PEI, as well as the CCHL All-Star Team that lost 8-7 in overtime during the Battle of Ontario versus the CJHL (now CCHL) in Pembroke, Ontario. Following the season, Carey would be named the CCHL West Division Most Valuable Player.

St. Lawrence University seniors Matt Weninger and Greg Carey captured the ECAC Goaltender and Player of the Week awards for week one of the 2013-14 season following a Saint sweep of the University of Maine.
The Saints will make their first road trip of the season Oct. 18-19, playing at Ferris State and return to Appleton Arena Oct. 25-26 to host Northeastern as part of Hockey Alumni Weekend. The game on Saturday, Oct. 26 will be alumni night with several stars from the past expected to attend. Additionally, former Saint All America Brian McFarlane, who went on to gain fame as a broadcaster on Hockey Night in Canada and as an author of a number of hockey books, will speak in the Winston Room at the Sullivan Student Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The session with McFarlane is open to the public.
Weninger continued his domination of Maine with a pair of wins last weekend and earned ECAC Goaltender of the Week for the series for the second straight year. This time out he made 25 saves on 26 shots in a 3-1 win on Friday night and came back with 33 saves on 35 shots to emerge a 5-2 winner on Saturday. The games were his 50th and 51st consecutive starts for the Saints as he continues to add to his records for career appearances and saves. In four career games against the Black Bears, Weninger has saved 124 of 128 shots, a .968 save percentage and has a 1.00 goals against average.
Carey earned his second career Player of the Week award after a five-point weekend against the Bears and also has had considerable career success against Maine. He had his second straight four-point Saturday this time around, scoring two goals and assisting on two others and had an assist in the game one win. Last year he had six points on two goals and four assists in the two games at Maine.
Saint rookie Gavin Bayreuther, a defenseman, was also a candidate for ECAC awards as he was nominated for Rookie of the Week after scoring a goal in each game and assisting on the game winner in Friday's game against Maine.
