ITALIANO RECEIVES PLAYER OF MONTH AWARD
Friday night, prior to the St. Michael's Buzzers game versus the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, forward David Italiano was presented with his OJHL South-West Conference Gongshow Gear Player-of-the-Month Award for September.
On-hand for the presentation (left to right, photo credit: Mike Ivall/OJHL Images) was Brent Garbutt, OJHL Manager of Hockey Operations and Mike McCarron, St. Michael's Buzzers Governor, who presented Italiano with his commemorative keepsake and he will receive an apparel package courtesy of Gongshow Gear, the Official Lifestyle Hockey Apparel of the OJHL.
With first place on the line in the OJHL's South Division, the game did not disappoint between the two GTA rivals. Italiano notched a pair of assists, including on the game winner late in the third period, to be named the game's third star during a 4-3 Buzzers victory. Teammate CJ. Shugart was named first star with a two goal, one assist performance and netminder Bo Bessette picked up the victory with a 31 save performance.
Other key match-ups over the course of the weekend included:
- Nationally ranked Wellington and Buffalo squared off for the first time ever in Wellington with the Dukes taking home a 5-3 decision
- Georgetown downed West Division rival Burlington 5-4 in a hard-fought overtime battle
- The Aurora Tigers won all three of their weekend games, scoring a combined 21 goals for
