BROOKS-POTTS RECEIVES GOALIE OF MONTH AWARD
Thursday night, prior to the Kingston Voyageurs game versus the Cobourg Cougars, netminder Alex Brooks-Potts was presented with his OJHL Gongshow Gear Goaltender-of-the-Month Award for September.
On-hand for the presentation (left to right, photo courtesy of the Kingston Voyageurs) was Brent Garbutt, OJHL Manager of Hockey Operations and Rob Zarichny, co-owner of the Voyageurs, who presented Brooks-Potts with his commemorative keepsake and he will receive an apparel package courtesy of Gongshow Gear, the Official Lifestyle Hockey Apparel of the OJHL.
In a key divisional match-up, the Vees and Cougars battled hard with Brooks-Potts ultimately showing why he earned the league honour in September, stopping 39 of the 40 shots he faced in regulation and overtime to earn 1st Star honours during a 2-1 shootout victory. Kingston would then win another divisional contest, 4-3 over Trenton, and have now won four in a row to sit just two points behind Wellington for first place in the East Division, as well as the North-East Conference.
Other big games over the weekend included:
- The defending champion St. Michael's Buzzers downed the league leading Wellington Dukes 4-2 on home ice.
- Georgetown upset the South-West Conference leading Buffalo Jr. Sabres, 2-1 in a shootout, to move within three points on first in the West Division standings.
- After a slow start, the Burlington Cougars won their third in a row with a 4-3 shootout victory over Mississauga.
Best of luck to all our players that are attending Team Canada East final selection camp this week in preparation for the 2013 World Jr. A Challenge that will take place in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
