After Dominik Pokorny scored the only goal of the first period for the Czech Republic, Kalk would reply early in the second frame, with assists to Jake Evans of the St. Michael's Buzzers and Jake Walman of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.  Pavel Jenys restored the Czech lead late in the period and the shots after two were 26-17 in favour of the Czech Republic.

Period three saw Canada East hit their stride, outshooting the visitors 23-4 in the comeback attempt.  OJHL leading scorer Taylor Best of the Whitby Fury knotted the game at two just over 13 minutes in, with Kalk and Derian Plouffe (Kanata, CCHL) picking up the helpers.  Their efforts were all for not, however, as Radim Zohorna notched the game winner just over a minute later, giving the Czech's a 3-2 victory.
