News from the SAGM
The OJBLL Council met on Saturday, March 6 at the Ontario Lacrosse Association Semi-Annual General Meeting hosted by the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre.
Here are a few highlights of what happened at Saturday's meeting.
The league award system has been revamped with a new scoring system. This will be implemented for the 2010 season. Each club will now be casting a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place vote in each category. League awards are handed out annually for each conference to the MVP, Best Defensive player, Rookie of the year, Most Sportsmanlike player and the Coaching staff of the Year. League awards are announced during the playoffs and prior to the Ontario Finals.
The Markham Ironheads applied for and were granted a change of venue for the 2010 season. The team will play in Ajax this season. They will continue to be known as the Markham Ironheads and their home player base will still be Markham. This is not a franchise relocation, simply a change of venue to play their home games.
There is a full slate of pre-season tournament action in the OJBLL. On Saturday, March 27 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the host Six Nations Rebels will be one of 8 teams in action. Saturday, April 10 will be a very busy day with four tournaments. A 6 team tournament will be hosted by the St. Catharines Spartans, and the Clarington Green Gaels, Akwesasne Indians and Elora Mohawks will each host 4 team tournaments.
The only other exhibition game scheduled currently will be April 15 when the Halton Hills Bulldogs travel to Tony Rose Arena to face the Orangeville Northmen. Game time is 8pm.
There will be no OJBLL All-Star game this year so the next meeting of the council will be in September.
