Sockers Sign Raymundo Reza and Matt Couch for 2012-2013 Season

SAN DIEGO—The San Diego Sockers today announced the signings of forward Raymundo Reza and defender Matt Couch to one-year contracts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The former San Diego State soccer standouts will add depth and a new layer of young talent to a Sockers team that has won three consecutive PASL championships.

“We are bringing aboard two quality young players in Raymundo and Matt,” said Sockers general manager John Kentera after signing both players to their deals, “Both of these young men have the talent to play this game at a very high level, and both are oustanding individuals as well. They were great Aztecs, and now we expect them to be great Sockers.”

Reza, 23, started the final 55 games of his career with the Aztecs, scoring 20 goals and earning first-team all Pac-10 and second-team NSCAA All-Far West Region honors. Reza’s 20 points in his junior season was the most for an Aztec since Sockers captain Aaron Susi’s 21 point season in 1996. After his senior season at SDSU, Reza was selected by the MLS Portland Timbers with the second pick of the second round in the 2011 supplemental draft.

Couch, 29, was a four-year starter at SDSU who earned second-team all-Pac 10 honors after his senior season, and was selected in the fourth round of the 2006 MLS supplemental draft by the LA Galaxy. Couch was a teammate of Sockers forward and back-to-back PASL MVP Kraig Chiles while at SDSU.

The Sockers open the 2012-2013 season on Saturday, November 3rd at 7:05pm when they host the Sacramento Surge at the Valley View Casino Center (former Sports Arena). Tickets, including season and single-game tickets, are available by calling (866) 799-GOAL, or by visiting www.sdsockers.com.
