The Harrisburg Heat beat the Detroit Waza Flo 10-6 Saturday night in front of 1,735 fans at the Equine Center of the Farm Show Complex.
Harrisburg forward Tom Mellor scored a brace and added four assists. Midfielders Tyler Witmer and David Schofield scored a pair of goals as well. Defenders Brad Kerstetter, midfielder Brian Ombiji and forwards Yann Ekra and newly signed Val Teixeria registered a goal apiece. In addition, Kerstetter, Witmer, Ekra and Ombiji contributed one assist. Goalkeeper Dave Kern only gave up six goals and saved eleven shots for his third win of the season.
Detroit’s Miki Djerisilo scored a double as Michael Grba, Nik Djokic, Matt Johnson and Ricardo Lopes converted on goals for the Waza Flo. Darrel Quinn and Johnson each tallied an assist for Detroit.
The win for Harrisburg gives them a 4-7 record, improving their third place stance in the Eastern Division standings to 5.5 games behind first place (Detroit) and three games behind second place (Cincinnati). Furthermore, the win was Harrisburg’s first of the season not against the Ohio Vortex, whom the Heat beat three times this season. The loss for Detroit drops them to 10-2 but still have a solid lead in the Eastern Division.
The Heat’s next home game of the season is scheduled for 7:05pm Friday, January 25th at the Equine Arena of the Farm Show Complex against the San Diego Sockers. The Harrisburg Heat will retire Heat Legend Bob Lilley’s jersey during the halftime ceremony.
