PRESS BOXHISTORIC BOWMAN FIELD HOME TO THE WILLIAMSPORT OUTLAWS
Williamsport, PA – Williamsport’s Historic Bowman Field is one of the oldest and most distinguished ballparks in the country. The 4,200 seat stadium has been a true treasure not only to the city of Williamsport but to professional baseball and this nation’s pastime. At a press conference on July 24th outside Bowman Field, Williamsport’s newest professional sports team, the Williamsport Outlaws, and Mayor Gabriel Campana unveiled to the media, fans and the community of Williamsport a first look at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field. Airmen Pond at Bowman Field will become the new home of the Williamsport Outlaws. Airmen Pond will host all 30 Outlaws home games this 2012-2013 season as well as the Federal Hockey League All Star Game to be played on January 2nd. More importantly Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field will provide Williamsport a long awaited skating facility that its community and the surrounding region has been yearning for over the course of many years. It will provide the community with daily public skating sessions, the development of youth hockey programs, figure skating programs, adult leagues, ice shows, and a facility for the local high school and colleges to develop their own hockey programs. ‘On behalf of the Outlaws’ organization I want to thank Mayor Gabriel Campana for all his hard work, I know this has been a tremendous passion of his to bring ice to Williamsport over the last 15 years. I know he’s brought many smiles to many families and kids across the city of Williamsport and this region,’ said Outlaws Team President & Head Coach Chris Firriolo. ‘I also want to thank the Williamsport City Council, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, Airmen, and the Mayor’s staff for all their support as well as so many amazing individuals who have stepped forward to help make this possible. We always said this new facility will become a home to the Williamsport Outlaws but Airmen Pond at Bowman Field is truly a home for families across the City of Williamsport and its community.” The Outlaws gear up to defend their 2011-2012 Commissioner’s Cup Championship on October 24th as they face the Dayton Devils on Opening Night.
