Kings Recognize our Veterans
On November 11th the Komoka Kings hosted the LaSalle Vipers and also recognized our veterans on this, the day of Remembrance. WW II Royal Navy vet Eddie Rhodes was a special guest and along with Middlesex Centre Mayor dropped the ceremonial puck.
Mr. Eddie Rhodes is a former British Royal Navy First Class Engine Room Mechanic and Physical Training Instructor (PTI) who served from 1943 to 1948. From January 1945 until the end of the war in August Eddie endured the hardships of war as a Prisoner of War, held by the Japanese in Thailand. After the war and his capture ended in 1945 Eddie continued out his service term with the Royal Navy and then returning home to Birmingham, England in 1948.
In 1943 during his war service Eddie had a stopover in Halifax on a navy ship, and loving what he saw he vowed to someday come back. He did, some forty years later moving to Canada, and now at age 90 he resides at the Davis Manor Seniors Apartments in Delaware.
Captain Eric Kirby of the LaSalle Vipers and Captain Andrew Kim of your Komoka Kings participated in the ceremonial opening faceoff with Mr Rhodes and Mayor Edmondson.
Mount Brydges Cougars MInor Hockey players Kyle and Ben Lunnie and their sister Katie were the proud skaters to carry the Canadian Flag around the ice.
A proud moment for Mr Rhodes and King's President Roop Chanderdat.
