ACH Week 1 Recap
The puck dropped on the 2022-23 Allan Cup Hockey league season last week with all four teams in action over the three games that were played.
Opening up the campaign on Thursday night was the Wentworth Gryphins who hosted the reigning ACH champion Dundas Real McCoys at the Harry Howell Arena in Flamborough.
The Gryphins scored their first goal in franchise history just 3:52 into the opening period thanks to Kyle Ventura before Dundas’ Rob Hisey evened the score at one just under eight minutes later. Kevin Harvey would give Wentworth the lead with the only goal of the second frame.
Scoring picked up in the third as the Real McCoys got goals from Justin DaSilva and Brad Bonello in the first 5:37 of the period to take the lead. However, in a 3:27 span at the midway point of the period the Gryphins would get goals from Tyler Vankleef, Anthony Pinelli and Harvey to secure their first ever victory, defeating the McCoys 5-3.
For Dundas, DaSilva was the only player to pick up a pair of points, adding an assist along with his goal. On the other side of the ice Deron Cousens led the Gryphins with three assists. Also picking up multiple points in the win were Harvey (2G), Vankleef (G, A) and Evan McGrath (2A).
