A four goal second period helped the Wentworth Gryphins to a 9-3 victory over the Dundas Real McCoys in ACH action on Thursday night.
Cam Fergus opened the scoring for Dundas just over three minutes into the game with an unassisted goal, but Matt MacLeod responded at 9:13 with an unassisted marker of his own to even the score at one.
Wentworth would jump out to a 5-2 lead in the second period thanks to a pair of goals by Justin DaCosta and single goals by Matt Beca and Declan Ride, with Ride’s coming with one tick left on the clock. Picking up the lone Dundas goal in the second was Mackenzie Wood.
Third period went pretty much the same way as the second as the Gryphins scored four times in just over six minutes of play to pick up their seventh win of the season. Kyle Lewis, Corey Caruso and Tyler Vankleef would all find the back of the net in the final frame.
Lewis led the Gryphins with a goal and two assists, while DaCosta and Vankleef each had a pair of goals and four others picked up a goal and an assist. Vankleef now sits in third for points this season with 20, one back of the leaders. For Dundas, Wood had a pair of goals which moved him into a tie with Hamilton’s Cam Sault for the league points lead with 21 and teammate Trevor Atkinson for the goal scoring lead with 13. Fergus would add a goal and an assist in the loss while Justin DaSilva would pick up the only other helper in the game for Dundas.
In net, Jacob Hutchings picked up his third consecutive victory.
