Hamilton Steelers take opener 7-4

DUNDAS---The Steelers were full value for the win and gave the McCoys all they could handle on Friday evening before an enthusiastic crowd cheering for the home side. Chris Leveille’s three-point night (two goals and one assist) carried the Hamilton Steelers to a 7-4 victory in the opening game of the John Ross Robertson Cup competition tonight at the JL Grightmire Arena.
Dundas was no clicking on all cylinders on this night and will look to even the series in the next game.
Mike Ruberto, Mark Taylor, Jordan Gignac and Chris Knighton each collected two points on the night, while Drew Schiestel scored once for Hamilton. Andrew Whalen set up four scoring plays and James Cordell had a pair of assists.
Dundas replied with a goal and an assist each by Kevin Mitchell and Phil Brewer. Dustin Alcock and Simon Mangos had single goals. Brad Bonello chipped in with assists on two Dundas scoring plays.
The second game of the series will be played on April 5th at 7:30 pm in Dundas. Game three if necessary will be played on April 8th at 7:30 pm in Dundas.

Allan Cup Senor Hockey Tournament
The Robertson trophy was presented for the first time to in 1899 to Queen’s University when they defeated the University of Toronto 19-11. It was retired in 1987 and did not return to active competition until 2002, when the Dundas Real McC0ys won its first of eight titles. Cup was not presented in 2020 or 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada.
