2016 Bantam Nationals: DAY 2 Recap

WELCOME TO DAY 2 OF THE 2016 BANTAM NATIONALS

It was a drizzly day in Saskatoon for Day  2 of Bantam Nationals. While the weather outside was a little on the cool side, things inside the rink were heating up. At the end of day two, Team Ontario remains on the top with a significant four game winning streak. Chris Dong (16) of Team Ontario leads in goals scored with a tournament total of 6 goals, followed closely by Thomas Vela (9) of Team British Columbia with a tournament total of 5 goals. 

Game 7:Team First Nations vs. Team British Columbia, 9:30am

Day 2 kicked off with a physical game between Team First Nations and Team British Columbia. With a combined total of 15 penalties, this game was a close one! At the end of the first period Team British Columbia was up 3 to 1. Team First Nations fought to catch up, scoring two goals late in the third period, but ultimately fell short with a final score of 6 to 4.

FINAL SCORE: FN 4 vs. BC 6

Game 8: Team Nova Scotia vs. Team Ontario Lacrosse Association, 10:45am

Tournament leader, Team Ontario took on Team Nova Scotia for Game 2. The game was tied 1-1 within the first three minutes of the game, but Team Ontario took an early game lead scoring 3 more goals in the first period. Team Nova Scotia continued to fight but fell significantly behind in the second period when Team Ontario scored an additional 7 goals. In an  outstanding show of skill, Team Ontario once again demonstrated their ability to crush their competition, winning with a score of 14 to 1.

FINAL SCORE: NS 1 vs. ON 14

Game 9: Team Alberta vs. Team Saskatchewan, 12:00pm

The hometown team hit the floor for Game 3 taking on Team Alberta. While they fought hard they ultimately fell behind, losing to team Alberta with a score of 9 to 4. Mattias Flammenspeck (12) and Hunter Lalonde-Still (8) of Team Alberta, stood out from the crowd, each scoring one goal and one assist to help take their team to victory.

FINAL SCORE: AB 9 vs. SK 4

Game 10: Team Manitoba vs. Team First Nations, 5:30pm

Following the afternoon break, Team First Nations took on Team Manitoba for Game 4. The score was 7 to 2 at the end of second period, in favour of Team First Nations. When the teams came back for the third period, Team First Nations hit the ground running, scoring an increadible 8 goals to defeat Team Manitoba with a win of 15 to 3. Shout out to Garon Bianchard (31) of Team Manitoba for scoring the teams third goal late in the third period.

FINAL SCORE: MB 3 vs. FN 15

Game 11: Team Ontario Lacrosse Association vs. Team British Columbia, 6:45pm

Team Ontario was back on the floor to take on Team British Columbia in their second game of the day.  Team Ontario took a an early lead scoring 4 goals in the first period. Team British Columbia put up a good fight against one of the tournaments highest scoring teams, and was able to keep the high scoring team under wraps. Congratulations to Eddie Qu (6) of Team Ontario for scoring two goals in this game. The final score was 7 to 4 in favour of the tournament leader, Team Ontario.

FINAL SCORE: ON 7 vs. BC 4

Game 12: Team Saskatchewan vs. Team Nova Scotia, 8:00pm

The day ended on a high note as Team Saskatchewan took on Team Nova Scotia for the last game of the day.  The team worked hard to recover from their loss earlier in the day and made the hometown fans proud. At the end of the second period Team Nova Scotia was in the lead with a score of 6 to 2, but the hometown team fought hard and tied up the game in the third period, taking them into overtime. In an exciting battle for the win, Team Saskatchewan, came from behind to clench the win with a final score of 7 to 6.
