2016 Bantam Nationals: DAY 3 Recap

DAY 3: 2016 BANTAM NATIONALS

Day 3 of the Bantam Nationals has come and gone and here are some of the highlights from today! 

Game 13:Team Alberta vs. Team First Nations, 9:30am

Team First Nations kicked things off again as they took on Team Alberta. At the end of the first period, the teams were tied up with three goals a piece. The teams continued to battle it out in the second. Two minutes into the second period, James Gowland (42) scored, giving Team First Nations the lead. Team Alberta fought hard and Nathan Lam (18) scored late in the second period to tie up the game. In a hard fought battle, team Alberta won the fight, finishing the game with score of 6 to 5. 

FINAL SCORE: AB 6 vs. FN 5

Game 14: Team Saskatchewan vs. Team Ontario Lacrosse Association, 10:45am

The hometown heroes were back on the floor as they took on Team Ontario.  The team came out of the gates fighting strong with an early lead in the first period.  Maxime Farbacher (2) was fired up and scored the first goal of the game twenthy seconds in. The lead was short lasted and by the end of the first period the tournament leader, Team Ontario was up 4 to 2. Despite an amazing effort, Team Saskatchewan was defeated with a score of 13 to 2.

Game 15: Team British Columbia vs. Team Manitoba, 12:00pm

Team British Columbia took the floor for Day 3, Game 3 as they challenged Team Manitoba. While the outcome was not what Team Manitoba was hoping for, the team put up a good fight against Team British Columbia. Cameron Ickert (6), Patrick Wong (15), Finn Halladay (13) and Matthew Atkinson (19) of Team British Columbia stood out as they each scored two goals, to help lead their team to a 12-0 win.

FINAL SCORE: BC 12 vs. MB 0

Game 16: Team First Nations vs. Team Nova Scotia, 4:30pm

Following the afternoon break, Team First Nations took on Team Nova Scotia for Game 4. In another physical battle, Team First Nations came out on top as they defeated Team Nova Scotia 12 to 4. Team Nova Scotia didn't stop fighting despite and Ethan Locke (16) was able to secure their fourth goal late in the third period. Congratulations to Kaleb Benedict (10) of Team First Nations for scoring three goals in this game!

FINAL SCORE: FN 12 vs. NS 4

OPENING CEREMONIES 5:45pm

Game 17: Team British Columbia vs. Team Saskatchewan, 6:45pm

Team Saskatchewan was back on the floor as they took on Team British Columbia, to secure their place in the finals. The team was able to hold off Team British Columbia for the majority of the first period but was unable to carry on the momentum, losing the game with a score of 8 to 0. Austin Ducommun (12) of Team British Columbia took centre stage in this game scoring three goals and one assist in this game.

FINAL SCORE: BC 8 vs. SK 0

Game 18: Team Alberta vs. Team Manitoba, 8:00pm

Rounding out the day, Team Alberta took on Team Manitoba. Despite working to fight off the opposing team, Team Manitoba fell behind early in the game and lost with a score of 19 to 1. Brandon McCartney (18) of Team Manitoba scored the teams only goal, putting the team on the board. In a show of skill and athleticism, Team Alberta took the lead and continued to dominate, securing their victory over Team Manitoba. 

FINAL SCORE: AB 19 vs. MB 1
