A four-point weekend enabled the Brockville Braves to move up in the CCHL standings.
The Jr. A hockey team defeated the Rangers 4-1 in Gloucester on Sunday afternoon. The win pulled Brockville even with Kemptville for fourth place in the Robinson Division.
Sean Allen’s goal early in the third period broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the game winner. Colin Tonge and Dustin Rinaldo added insurance markers for the Braves. Eric Faith had opened the scoring early in the second period. Allen was named first star; Blake Coffey, who picked up two assists for Brockville, was the second star.
The Braves outshot the Rangers 32-22. Yaniv Perets picked up the win in net for Brockville.
The Braves had moved to within two point of Kemptville by defeating the 73’s 5-2 at the memorial centre on Friday night. The visitors took a 2-0 lead into the second period, but Brockville scored five unanswered goals. The game-winner went to Logan Blaser early in the third period. Devin Moore scored a goal and an assist for the Braves and was named the game’s first star. Second star Reid Murphy chipped in with two assists for the home team. Henry Johnson made 31 saves in net and picked up the win; the Braves outshot Kemptville 36-33.
Brockville travelled to Kanata to take on the Lasers on Thursday night. The Braves took a 4-3 lead into the third period; the home team evened up things and sent the game into overtime. There was no scoring in the extra frame, but Chad Varney won it for the visitors when he was the only one to score in the shootout.
Braves Captain Andrew Jarvis was named the game’s first star; he had two goals and an assist. Varney was the third star. Johnson was in net for Brockville.
The Braves had a record of 24-18-0-1 after the weekend. The Ottawa Jr. Senators will visit Brockville on Friday, Jan. 20; puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The Braves take on the Hawks in Hawkesbury on Saturday night at 7:30.
