Tikis Battle Back for OT Victory - Recorder & Times
Recorder & Times - Jonathon Brodie
A pair of late game heroics by the Brockville Tikis made it a positive home opener for them Wednesday on way to beating the Prescott Flyers 4-3 in overtime.
Rocco Barresi scored his second goal of the game with 48 seconds left in sudden death to give the Tikis their first win of the season.
Brockville’s power play was on point all game as everyone of their goals in regulation came on the man advantage.
The Tikis power play finished the game 3-for-9 with the biggest goal coming off the stick of Dylan Stacey when he found the back of the net with 24 seconds left in the third period to push the game into overtime.
The loss is a tough one for the Flyers, who were looking to extend their win streak to three games to start the season.
Brockville, however, was leading Prescott heading into the third period when Chris Grose and Barresi gave their team a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Flyers scored a power play goal of their own in the second period with Joel Hunt getting his first point of the season.
The Flyers went on the attack in the third period with Greg Heika getting a tying goal five minutes into the frame, while former Brockville Braves Brett VanStralen gave Prescott the lead about three minutes later on a penalty shot.
Both goalies played a solid game with Kyle Herbison getting the win after making 31 saves. Prescott’s Reilly Tondreau stopped 36 shots.
The Flyers will host their home opener on Saturday against the Perth Blue Wings. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
The Tikis will travel to Perth on Friday to take on the Blue Wings.
