Tikis get another home win - Recorder & Times
Recorder & Times - Jonathon Brodie
There must be something about that Memorial Centre ice that the Brockville Tikis like because they have now won their only two games of the year (out of five) at the arena after beating the Athens Aeros 3-2 on Wednesday.
The Tikis opened the scoring when Tom Callaghan scored his first goal of the year when he put the puck past Aeros goalie Bennett Oxborough midway through the first period.
The goal was the only one put up on the scoreboard after 40 minutes, but both teams pushed the pace and stayed physical throughout.
Athens outshot Brockville in the third period 20-9, but it’s not how many pucks you put on net, It’s about how many pucks you can put in the back of the net and the Tikis managed to keep pace with the Aeros in that category.
Athens Josh Maley tied the game 1-1 just over three minutes into the final frame, but Brockville built a big enough lead when Dylan Stacey scored a short handed marker followed by Callaghan getting another goal less than four minutes later.
Aeros Eric Hulford got his team to within one goal of the Tikis when he scored with 36 seconds left in regulation.
Goalie Kyle Herbison earned the win for Brockville by making 38 saves. In three games played, Herbison has won two and has a save percentage of .929.
The Tikis travel to Westport to take on the Rideaus on Friday before returning home to host the Rideaus at the Memorial Centre next Wednesday. Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. for the latter game.
The Aeros will head out on the road for a par of games, starting with the Perth Blue Wings on Friday and then the Arnprior Packers on Sunday. Athens won’t return home until Saturday, September 24 when they take on Brockville.
