The Brockville Tikis almost pulled out an upset Wednesday, but a rough second period proved to be their undoing as they lost to the Casselman Vikings 2-1 at the Memorial Centre.

The Tikis started the game fairly strong and managed to keep pace with the Vikings in the first period. It hardly looked like a matchup between the Martin Division’s second-place team against the Richardson Division’s second-last place squad.

Brockville eventually made it out of the opening frame with a 1-0 lead after Thomas Chaulk scored his first goal of the year.

In the second period, though, Casselman came on strong and scored back-to-back goals about five minutes apart.

The Tikis almost made it out of the middle frame with a 1-1 tie, but Adam Baxter scored with just 12 seconds left in the period.

Brockville’s loss saw the return of goalie Kyle Herbison, who had missed the last three games. He showed no signs of rust and made 30 saves in the contest. The Tikis had just 20 shots on net.

The Tikis will head to Prescott on Saturday to take on the Flyers. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
