Final Weekend Previews
Marlins vs Dbacks (4 games - Baisley)
Marlins- The marlins are coming from a tough weekend vs the Roughriders. The fish had a decent lead in both contests of 5-0 and 4-1 until the Riders offense came back with unanswered runs. Deshawn was the star of the game offensively. After those 2 loses, the fish will need to compete this weekend if they want to keep the #2 seed. Last time around both the Dbacks and the Fish got washed out and will play a 4 game set. The fish will have both their aces Miguel Sierra and Alex Gounaris going on Saturday. Meanwhile for Sunday’s contest, the Fish will be looking to have all arms on deck to finish the season on a high note with the playoffs around next week.
NY Diamondbacks- It has been a tough road so far this season for the Diamondbacks. After losing their ace John Showtime due to an elbow injury all year long, the dbacks have been maneuvering their pitching staff in eating up innings. The Diamondbacks lost both games against the bats as they are in a brink of elimination. If the Diamondbacks lose all 4 games, they can kiss their season goodbye. The Diamondbacks magic number is 1. On a positive side of things, Waldo Acosta and Rodney Newell have carried the offense. In addition, Veteran Victor Rivera has done a decent job in keeping the games close and Sonny Hodge coming off the pen to stop the bleeding. The Diamondbacks will more than likely finish 5th as they will potentially face the bats in a one 9 inning elimination wildcard game.
Warhawks vs NY Giants
NY Giants- The NY Giants are looking to accomplish in playing the spoiler role. The NY Giants have lost 17 straight games. Their last win was against the Marlins in late April. Dexter Khan’s ball club is looking to end his disappointing season on a good note. With that, the NY Giants are looking to rebuild for next season by getting more starting pitching.
Warhawks- After a terrible 4-13-1 start, the Warhawks have been 7-3 since Tino Pavlidis resigned. This solid ball club looks more energized than ever. The Warhawks are looking to end their miraculous come back season on a good note with a sweep. However it will take a lot of help for the Warhawks to reach the postseason. The Warhawks will need to sweep the Giants and hope Los Bravos lose both games and NY Diamondbacks lose all 4 games. If this was to occur, it will be the first ever MABLNYC team to start out close to 10 games under .500 in making the playoffs. In case the Warhawks does not make the playoffs it will be something to build on towards the 2020 season.
Riders vs Bats
Riders- The Riders will be the obvious team to beat in 2019. As predicted the Riders will more than likely finish with 25-26 wins, most ever in MABLNYC history in a regular season. As manager Ramos from the Roughriders quoted “ regular season does not mean anything, everyone is 0-0 in the playoffs” if you don't win the championship you failed. The Riders last contest vs the bats came in 2 victories at New Rochelle. Both Steven Moran and Victor Franco pitched very well last time against the Bats. They will b looking to salvage with a victory in the final 2 game series against the Bats.
Bats- The Bats main problem so far this season has been their attendance. When they have all of their players in presence, it is a team to look out for. Last weekend the Bats got their bats cooking by sweeping the Dbacks. Last time around the Bats lost 2 close games against Riders. This weekend, the Bats are looking to take 2 from the First place Riders and maintain themselves as the 4th seed.
Los Bravos vs. NY Beers
Los Bravos- This young core has a tremendous upside where they can beat any good team at any moment. Los Bravos control their own destiny by having their magic number being at 1. Los bravos are looking to sweep the Beers to either avoid them or the Marlins the first round. Los Bravos are trying to move up to 5th place coming into this weekends play and see how the Diamondbacks finish.
NY Beers- A very scrappy team all year long where their hitting has been tremendous. The NY Beers will need to sweep Los Bravos and hope the Marlins lose 2 out of 4 to the Dbacks to claim sole possession of 2nd place/first round bye. Even though Ryan smith hasn’t pitched as much this year, other pitchers like Matt Regan and Eric Weber have stepped up. They have combined themselves for a 8-6 record with an era under 4. In the Beers last contest, they split the series vs the Warhawks by winning the first game 6-4 and losing a heartbreaker 9-10. This could potentially be a preview of a first round wildcard playoff matchup which Los Bravos would definitely might see Ryan Smith.
