COUGARS BOLSTER THEIR LINE-UP
Burlington, ON- The Burlington Cougars made a splash June 1 by adding three big pieces to their lineup.
We are excited to announce the acquisitions of Bain Cunningham, Mitchell Morrison and Brandon Bastasin (left to right in the image above).
The Cougars added two play-making centermen to their roster, with the additions of Bain Cunningham and Mitchell Morrison.
Cunningham, a 1997 born left shot center, spent the last two seasons with the Timmins Rock of the NOJHL where he registered 44 goals and 75 assists in 109 games in the regular season; while adding 5 goals and 13 assists in 16 playoff games.
“Bain is a big (6’3 205lb) power forward, who is dominant in the offensive zone and face-off dot. Our goal is to be a fast and physical team this season; Bain exemplifies both of those qualities. He is a fun player to watch and will be a leader on our team this season”, says General Manager Alex Bezerra.
Morrison, a 2000 born left shot center, spent last season with the Guelph Hurricanes of the GOJHL where he registered 8 goals and 19 assists in the regular season, and 5 points in 4 playoff games in his rookie season. Morrison was drafted in the 5th round of the 2016 OHL Entry Draft to the Saginaw Spirit after posting 48 points in 30 games with the Guelph Minor Midget program.
“Mitch will be one of the best young centerman in the OJHL. He has a bright future in the game and will be a big piece of our program now and in the future. He has a professional shot and a very high hockey IQ which allows him to dictate the pace of play”, added Bezerra.
The Cougars also added a big piece to their back end with the acquisition of Brandon Bastasin.
Bastasin, a 1998-born left shot defenceman, comes to the Cougars from the Kemptville 73’s of the CCHL; prior to that he was with the Ottawa Jr. Sens of the CCHL and the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. Brandon was drafted in the 7th round of the 2014 OHL Entry Draft and played 32 games in his rookie season with the Wolves. Brandon is a 6’3 shut down defenceman who will have an immediate impact on the defensive play of the Cougars come September.
“Brandon is one of the elite puck moving and shut down defenceman in Junior hockey in our minds, we are very happy to have him in a Cougars uniform. We are fortunate to have a very good returning core on the back end and with the addition of Brandon we will be even harder to play against”, says Bezerra.
The Cougars are looking forward to an exciting 2017/18 season which kicks off with the Cougars Golf Classic August 12 at Hidden Lake Golf Club.
