CCBC Recap - Week 3
Friday, April 7th
Only two games were played on Friday, as the series of the week match up had TRU vs. VIU. In game one, James Joyce and Trevor Nicoll lead the way for VIU, both tallying two hits and both scoring a run. Meanwhile, Caleb Battye fanned eight while only allowing one run in 8 innings. VIU would take the first game 2-1, recording their first win of the season. In game two, Manny Recchi tallied two hits and drove in four runs for TRU while Matt Olsen had three hits and two RBI. TRU would go down 4-0 in the first but evidently came back to win 8-6.
Saturday, April 8th
With game three and four of the TRU and VIU getting cancelled due to weather, The Dawgs would square off against the Victoria Golden Tide for the only games on Saturday. In game one, PBA had an offensive explosion winning 26-0. Teigen Parenteau and Kai Ryden both put up a four hit day and Zaden Wake helped drive in five runs. In game two, Sam Hilgersom had a three hit day and Ryden added to his success tallying three hits. PBA would also take game two by a score of 16-6.
Sunday, April 9th
On Sunday, PBA and Victoria would play games three and four in their series. In game three, Marc Brisson went 5-5 and Joseph Van Lagen drove in five. Aidan Newton went 6 ⅔ innings and struck out ten. Carter Claerhout finished 11 for 17 on the weekend which added to his current league leading .558 average. PBA would take game 2 14-4. Victoria would find some life in game four with Ryan Deagle driving in four and Daneil Sawchyn driving in three to take the final game 12-9.
The Dinos and Hawks would clash for a four game series starting on Sunday. Edmonton’s pitching was on point as they only allowed two earned runs all weekend. In game one, Brendan Wabick threw 7 1⁄3 innings while striking out six and helped the Hawks to a 7-4 victory. In game two Reece Devlin went 8 ⅔ shutout innings, fanned five while only giving up two hits. The Hawks would take game two 3-0.
Monday, April 10th
In game three of the Dinos vs. Hawks series, Matthew Ridsdale went six strong innings and only gave up one unearned run. The Hawks would also take game three 11-1. Game four was led by Liam Fox as he tossed a complete game shutout, struck out nine and only gave up two hits, leading the Hawks to a 2-0 win and the sweep. Top performers from the weekend for Edmonton were Brayden Morris who hit .466 with four runs scored, three RBI and three stolen bases. As well as Jacob Mireault who hit .312, scored three runs and drove in seven.
The OC Coyotes squared off against the UFV Cascades in a double header on Monday. In game one, OC put up a nine spot in the fifth inning which would hold until the end of the game finishing 9-0. Nolan Rivard and Ethan Skiffington both put up multi-hit games and Rivard drove in two runs. Their offensive success was backed up by a lights out start by Gavin Wushcke going 6 innings and fanning eleven, while only giving up one hit. Game two was a pitchers duel with Blake Badger of UFV going 8 ⅓ innings while striking out nine, and Sean Dunn threw six innings of one run ball and struck out seven. It was a 2-2 game going into the top of the ninth where UFV managed to put one run across and take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 9th innings, Nolan Klein would execute a safety squeeze to tie the game. Oc would then load the bases and Anthony Wyslobocki would drive in the winning run on an RBI single. Final score Yotes 4, Cascade 3. These two teams will play two more times on April 22nd at UFV.
