Kings shootout the weekend
Shootouts saved the Pembroke Lumber Kings over the weekend giving the hometown squad a 2-2-0-1 record five games into the 2013-14 campaign.
On Sunday, the Kings visited Gloucester where they fought a duel with the Rangers all the way into overtime. Pembroke's Reid Murphy and Jordan Larson were the only scorers in regulation with both markers coming in the first period. The assists came from Lucas Gonu and Keegan Harper.
Gloucester responded in the second period with goals from Ryan Kuffner and Matt Foget. During the shootout, only Larson was able to get the puck past the goalie.
It also took a shoot out for the Kings to edged out the Kemptville 73’s 5-4 Friday night in North Grenville. Harper opened the scoring in the first period notching his second goal of the campaign. Assisting was Larson and Brandon Kosik. Kemptville responded two minutes later with a goal from Dylan Giberson.
Then Gonu picked up his fourth goal of the season on the power play. Harper and Larson assisted.
In the second period, Pembroke built on their momentum with a marker from Nicolas Lavoie. Assists came from Blake Peavey and Liam Biard. But then Kemptville responded with two quick goals from Giberson and Dean Galasso. On the power play, Larson then picked up his first goal of the season. Harper and Reid Murphy picked up the helpers.
In the third period, Kemptville’s Hayden Hanson tied the game. Overtime did resolve anything taking the game to the shootout where Gonu and Murphy scored to give the Kings a 2-1 edge over Kemptville.
