The Boys are Back!
In a unanimous decision, the East Coast Collegiate Hockey Association (formerly known as the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference) has voted to accept CofC's bid into the long time ACHA conference. This comes after Charleston left the BRHC in 2012 after winning the Carolina Division and placing 4th in the South Regional to play in the Independent South. This was just the Cougars 3 full season in the ACHA but as a South Region favorite, they separated from the Blue Ridge for increase competition and access to more southern programs.
In 2013, the club would find their stride, knocking off top teams from the South region once again and claiming a top 10 ranking in just their 4th year. Led by program founding coach Joe Snecinski and Senior stand-outs Jack Saba, Gabe French, Steve Perdigao and Dick Lysaght the Cougars then finished their first season of Independence finishing as a top contender.
For 2017, the Cougars will return play in the BRHC. This time around in the Colonial Division along with Citadel Ice Hockey, CNU Hockey, CCU Hockey, Radford University Ice Hockey and Ice Hockey Club at VCU. The Cougars now have 2 year Head Coach Steve Barton at the helm directing his young program away from a short 2016 campaign. The Cougars will only graduate 3 in May, leaving a powerful lineup of talent on the bench including soon-to-be senior David Jerulle (Naples, FL) and Pat Ging (Charelston, SC). Both 4th year players that have been workhorses on the Charleston roster.
