Nationals edge Maroons in OT

LONDON — The Maroons blew a two-goal lead on Wednesday, falling on the wrong end of a 3-2 overtime decision on the road against the London Nationals.

Chatham got on the board first, thanks to a power-play goal at 7:46 of the first period from Troy Cox, with assists from Steven Szekesy and Brennan Feasey.

Feasey lit the lamp in the second at 5:33, assisted by Trevor Richardson.

However, the third period belonged to the Nationals, with power-play goals from Clark West and Pieter Schinkelshoek.

Noah Schwartz, who had two assists, scored the winner at 4:55 of the extra frame.

Chatham goalie Hunter Johnson made 30 stops in a losing cause. Jacob Riley had the win for London with 23 saves.

The Maroons are tied for sixth in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Western Conference with a record of 6-9-1-2.

The team will visit the Strathroy Rockets on Saturday.

NOTES: The Maroons played without Sean Myers and Blake Blondeel, their top two scorers. ... Blondeel was serving a one-game suspension for his cross-checking major penalty in the last 10 minutes of Sunday's loss to Strathroy. ... Brayden Seliga and Steven Beenackers were called up from the Chatham-Kent Minor Midget 'AAA' Cyclones. ... Rookie forward Sam Studnicka made his OHL debut Sunday afternoon with the Windsor Spitfires and also played that night with the Maroons. ... Feasey has points in four of five games since returning from the Spitfires. ... The Maroons have changed the time for their home game Sunday, Dec. 18, against the LaSalle Vipers from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m.
