BANDITS TAKE THE BATTLE OF ALBERTA AT THE RBC CUP

At the Centennial Civic Centre in Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan at the 2016 RBC Cup on May 17th, the (1 – 1) Brooks Bandits and (0 – 1 – 1) Lloydminster Bobcats renewed acquaintances after splitting their meetings during the Alberta Junior Hockey League regular season match – ups. These two Canadian Junior Hockey League franchises were looking to win the battle of Alberta on the biggest stage in Junior ‘A’ hockey?

With an unassisted Bandits goal, Cale Makar gives Brooks a 1 – 0 lead at the 1:32 mark of the first period. Noah Bauld sinks the tying goal for Lloydminster to bring the Bobcats even 1 – 1 with the Bandits 14:02 into the opening period. Derek Lodermeirer fires the go – ahead goal behind Bobcat netminder Alex Leclerc 6:49 into the second with Jeff Malott and Dylan McCrory drawing the helpers on Lodermeirer’s power play goal.

At 13:36 of the middle period and increasing the lead to 3 – 1, Brooks Parker Foo scores the Bandits third of the contest on an unassisted goal. Giving the Bandits a three goal lead, Logan Mick finds the back of the Bobcat net with a pass from Ty Mappin to bring Brooks lead to 4 – 1. Taylor Mulder brings the game within two for the Bobcats at 17:08 of the third with Christian Lloyd and Kris Spriggs adding the helpers on Mulder’s power play goal. Wiith one minute left in the game, Bobcat Morgan Messenger finds the back of Bandit goaltender Garret Hughson’s net end the game with Brooks taking the game 4 – 3 over Lloydminster.

Both the Bandits and the Bobcats will have day six off before Brooks finish their round robin against the Carleton Place Canadians on Thursday May 19th at 3:30 p.m (MDT) while Lloydminster meets the Trenton Golden Hawks in their final game of regulation play on May 19th in a 7:30 p.m (MDT) puck drop.
