CJHL/CCHL Ottawa Capitals side gearing up for Junior Club World Cup in Russia
 
CALGARY, Alta. –
Gearing up to represent the Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Central Canada Hockey League and Hockey Canada at the Junior Club Sirius World Cup, August 18-26, in Sochi, Russia the Ottawa Capitals, consisting of players and coaching staff from the CCHL, hit the ice Friday in Gloucester,Ont., in their initial practice in preparation for the nine-day event.

The Canadian contingent will then travel to Moscow tomorrow (Aug. 11) where they will train for four days before making the trek to Sochi to commence competition in the eight-team event.

Game action for the Capitals will begin Saturday, Aug. 18 at noon ET against Yaroslavl Loko of Russia.

After a day off the CJHL/CCHL side will face-off against Jokerit U-20 from Helsinki, Finland at 8 a.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 20.

They will then conclude round robin play on Wednesday, Aug. 22 vs. Kunlun Red Star Heilongjiang who compete out of Harbin, China at 8 a.m. ET.

Also taking part in the Junior Club Sirius World Cup will be the under-20 teams HC Davos of Switzerland; Red Bull Salzburg from Austria; Jonkopong HV71 of Sweden and the Trinec Steelers from the Czech Republic.

Following round robin play the top two clubs in each of the two divisions will advance to the medal round with the semifinals slated for Saturday, Aug. 25 while the bronze and gold/silver contests will go the next day (Aug. 26.)

The third and fourth place squads in divisional play will meet in a pair of consolation matches on Friday, Aug. 24.

Heading up the CJHL/CCHL squad as operations manager is Sean Marcellus of the CCHL while Ian MacInnis (Cornwall Colts, CCHL) is the club’s general manager and assistant coach.

The head coach is Mark Grady (Smiths Falls Bears, CCHL) and Dan Sauve (Rockland Nationals, CCHL) is the team’s other assistant coach.

Sheldon Adams (CCHL) is the Capitals athletic trainer while Dwayne Sawyer (Carleton Place Canadians, CCHL) is the team equipment manager.

CJHL president Brent Ladds will serve as the CJHL/Hockey Canada liaison for the tournament.
