Pembroke shrugs off penalties, upends Kanata, 4-0

The Pembroke Lumber Kings, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Kanata Lasers' power play opportunities and emerged with a 4-0 victory.

Pembroke was led by Kris Lalonde, who grabbed one goal. Lalonde scored 8:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Brandon Zullo picked up the assist.

The Lumber Kings stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pembroke's defensive play was more effective than usual against the Lasers. The Lumber Kings average 2.7 goals allowed per game. Pembroke could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 21 minutes in penalties during the game.

Pembroke also got points from Zullo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Reid Barber and Ben VanOoteghem, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Tyler ONeill, who had two and Fraser Turner, Cale List, Alex Gilmour, Adam Beveridge, and Brett Horn, who contributed one each.

Kanata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Boyd Diclemente recorded 21 saves for the Lumber Kings. For Pembroke, Nicolas Vlahos was ejected from the game. Jordan Vachon made 25 saves for the Lasers on 29 shots. Kanata totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. The Lasers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and David Pearce was ejected from the game.
