Muskegon, MI: The home Historic Marsh Field crowd finally got to go home happy following a 9-2 Muskegon Clipper (5-8) win over the Xenia Scouts (6-6) on Friday, June 20th. This was their fourth consecutive win following the sweep vs. the Copperheads this past week.
The Clippers thrived off of timely hitting and shut down pitching, ending the night with 12 base hits as a squad and 17 strikeouts total on the mound.
Trevor Raade was the winning pitcher, as he went two innings coming in relief for starter Joseph Chrapliwy after his three frames. Both Raade and Chrapliwy allowed one earned run and recorded five strikeouts.
Max Salas took the reins for innings six and seven, allowing no walks, hits or runs and striking out four. Closer Lucas Brewer went two strong with no earned runs, four strikeouts and a walk and hit a piece.
The big swing for the Clippers came from Jack Bakus in the fourth inning, clearing the bases with a two out, three-RBI double. Bakus finished the day 2 for 5.
Other notable performances came from Cole LeClair, who led the team in hits with three. Leclair also had an RBI ground out and run scored. Jackson Isaacs had a pair of doubles with one driving in a run.
Casey Joppie crossed home plate three times while going 1 for 4. Preston Leon went 1 for 2 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI sac fly. Braden Graves, Ethan Delgado and Taylor Head also had a hit each.
The Clippers capitalized off of four errors from the Scouts. Two runs in the first inning came from wild pitches from Scout starter Braeden Cochran. LeClair’s run would score on a passed ball in the 7th.
Defense stepped up big for the Clippers throughout the game stranding ten Scouts on base, and committing no errors.
The Clips will be back in action Saturday, June 21st for a chance to snag another series, with first pitch at 6:35, and pregame show at 6:05.
