Xenia, OH: A low scoring affair was unfriendly to the Muskegon Clippers (17-17) as they fell 3-2 to the Xenia Scouts (21-13) at Grady’s Field on Tuesday, July 15th.
This was the first Clipper loss since July 5th, snapping a seven game winning streak.
The Scouts scored three runs on just four hits but took advantage of two Clipper errors. Clips had eight hits, five walks and two hit batters, and left 13 total runners on base.
Ty Randall had an efficient outing as the starting pitcher, as his five innings took 55 pitches. Randall allowed two earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
Xenia got off to an early 1-0 lead after an error from Nolan Zajac on a wild throw to first allowed Johnathan Jackson to score.
Two more Scouts would cross the plate in the fourth.
The Clippers were able to string together plenty of baserunners, but could not find the big swing.
However, the top of the sixth inning is where the Clippers finally got to the Scout arms. An RBI-walk from Zajac made it 3-1 Xenia. Next batter was Luke Noack with an RBI-single to make it 3-2.
The Clips would be shut down after that, and ended the game with the tying run in scoring position.
Casey Barnes had two hits, a single and ground-rule double, sharing the lone runs with Ashten Wong. Taylor Head went 2-5, Jackson Isaacs had a double, with additional hits coming from Jack Bakus and Cole LeClair.
Chase Scheirking had a scoreless inning of relief with one walk and hit allowed to go with his punchout. Winston Delp had the same stat line while throwing two scoreless innings.
Clips will try to continue their double header success Wednesday in the middle game and series finale, with Game 1 taking place at 5:05.
