CMU DIII drops their second straight to Oakland; falls to 9-12
Mount Pleasant, MI – After falling to #2 Oakland Grizzlies on Friday, #15 Central Michigan hosted them today to redeem themselves. With emotions running high, Oakland came out on top, taking back-to-back wins over the Chippewas.
The first period began with the Chippewas lacking chemistry, leading to Oakland getting the first goal of the game making the score 1-0. With emotions remaining controlled, the puck remained in Central’s zone as the Grizzlies scored again, 2-0.
Minutes later, Oakland found the back of the net again to add another insurance goal and push the score 3-0. Ending the first period, the Chippewas racked up six penalties and left Oakland multiple power play goal opportunities.
Central Head Coach, Tyler Cataline, was ready for the boys to come out and get back on top heading into the second period. Oakland scored quickly on a power play goal and increased their lead 4-0. James Gleason was quick to prove to us why he’s Central’s captain by tipping the puck in to get Central on the board for their first goal tonight.
Shortly after, Oakland has the opportunity and slides in two back-to-back goals, increasing their lead 6-1. Chippewa, Cody Ferris sinks in a power play goal to cut OU’s lead 6-2. Oakland fights back with another goal, 7-2. Aaron Grady finishes off the period with a goal, 7-3.
Central came into the third period fired up but the Grizzlies quickly scored another goal making it 8-3. The third period ended anything but quietly as gloves were dropped form frustration. Central slides in another goal to end the game by Tyler Carr as OU takes the win with a final score 8-4. Central’s record now sits at 9-12 as they look to face Adrian Black on Thursday.
