Central Michigan DIII Dominates Augustana College 11-1 in Season Opener

Mount Pleasant, MI- Coming off of a rocky 2016-2017 season, the D3 Chippewa hockey team came out strong during game one. The Chippewas faced off against Augustana College to kick off the 2017-18 Season.

The Chippewas came out of the gate fast, scoring a quick 6 goals in the first period. The first goal was scored within the first minute of play, scored by Junior Dalton Sutherland. Sutherland became the leading point scorer of the game, getting a hat trick in the first period and finishing off the game scoring another four points. Freshman Alex Osborn made a good impression in his first college game, scoring a goal in the first period. Augustana managed to score one goal, but the period ended with the Chips up 6-1.

At the beginning of the second period the Chippewas continued to come hard at Augustana, scoring another four goals. Ryan Tyrer, Justice Bigelow, and Dalton Sutherland were among those who scored. The Chips continued to show good defense and prevented Augustana from scoring any more goals, ending the second period with CMU still in the lead with 10-1.

The Chips started the third period with a massive lead. Coach Cadzow continued to encourage his players through the entire game. Continuing to not allow Augustana to score, the Chips won the game 11-1, Sutherland scoring the last goal. CMU and Augustana face off once again tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.
