Central Michigan (DIII) Falls Flat for the First Time This Season
Hudsonville, MI- The Central Michigan Chippewas ventured down to Hudsonville, MI to face the Lakers for the second day of the two game series weekend.
Coming off of an 8-2 win last night, the Chips fought long and hard to continue their winning streak. The first period was seemingly uneventful. Riley Morgan was in goal for CMU tonight for the fourth straight game and managed to keep the puck out of the net for the entirety of the first period.
The second period began with both teams fighting to be the first to get the puck into the net. The Lakers got hold of the puck and got the first goal of the game. CMU, however, was not backing down. Defense stepped up their game and the intensity on the ice was unmatched. The Chips were unable to get the puck into the goal, but they did keep the Lakers from scoring again.
With the Lakers up by one, the Chips skated into the third period driven with motivation. Both teams chased after the puck for a while, but the Lakers once again got ahold of the puck and scored. Now with the Lakers up by two, it was now time for the Chips to fight back. With the last few seconds in the third slowly ticking by, it became crunch time. 10 seconds now remained. Nate Allgaier took the puck, he shot, he scored! Goal for CMU! The game ended with an end score of 2-1.
Although the Chips did not pull away with the win, CMU showed the rest of the ACHA what the Chippewas were made of. Sophomore Lawrence Rowe believed that is what the game was all about, “I just want our team to show everyone what CMU hockey is about and what we have to bring.”
