COBOURG, ON - The Cobourg Cougars Jr. A Hockey Club is very proud to announce that Brent Tully has been hired as its new General Manager, effective immediately.

Brent has been involved with the organization in various roles over the past 3 years, and most recently was the club’s Assistant General Manager.

Brent has been an integral part of the Cougar organization in helping it to becoming one of the most respected Jr. A organizations in Canada.

“Extending Brent’s role to General Manager of the Cougars was an easy decision to make, particularly given his commitment to the club over the past 3 years”, said Marc Mercier, Governor of the Cougars.

Brent comes with an extensive background as a hockey player.  Brent played Major Junior hockey for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL for four seasons, winning an OHL Championship in 1993 and was team captain in 1994.

Brent also represented Canada at 2 World Junior Championships, which saw him win 2 Gold medals in both 1993 and 1994.  In 1993, he was voted to the Tournament All Star Team on defence and in 1994 was voted Team Canada Captain by his teammates.

Brent was drafted in 1992, 93rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks and played 3 seasons with their American Hockey League affiliate the Syracuse Crunch. He then went on to play 5 seasons in the Deutches Eishockey Premier League in Germany before retiring in 2002.

Brent is very excited to accept this new role and the challenges that lie ahead. “It is certainly an honour and a privilege to be entrusted with this role with such a progressive organization as we have here in Cobourg.  I have grown over the past 3 seasons to appreciate the importance of the Cougars’ organization within Northumberland County and the great community of Cobourg”, Tully said.

“We have a very loyal and knowledgeable fan base here in Cobourg - Indeed it is one of the best in the OJHL”, Tully went on to say.

“I have been involved with many hockey organizations as a player and the successful ones are well run from the top down and with a committed volunteer base.   We are very fortunate to have all of this here in Cobourg. With a strong ownership group, an amazing volunteer base, superior coaching led by Curtis Hodgins, great training and equipment staff and the opportunity to play in one of the finest Jr A facilities in the country, I am excited by the prospects for continued success”, Tully said.

Tully has an insurance and wealth management practice based in Peterborough, ON and has two sons that are actively involved in hockey, soccer and baseball.

“Brent is not one to rest on his laurels”, Mercier said. “He knows that success in the ‘New OJHL’ is very much dependant on hard work, vision and execution”, Mercier went on to say.

For Tully, he sees his role as an opportunity with purpose. “We will continue as a group to recruit top level talent from across the province in order to see this organization continue to grow into a leader amongst its Canadian peers.    We want to win at the end of the day; however, we take equal pride in developing young players that are interested in progressing on to higher levels of hockey, with an emphasis on education, and preparing these young men also for what comes after hockey is finished as well.”

For more than 45 years, the Cobourg Cougars has been a strong, community-based and well-supported junior hockey organization.  During this past season, the Cougars enjoyed once again being among the top quartile of clubs in attendance and have laid the foundation for on-ice success.  For more information on the Cougars please visiwww.cobourgcougars.com and follow the Cougars owww.Twitter.com/cobourgcougars
