CHE Player Spotlight: Zachary Lahart
NAME: Zachary Lahart
SCHOOL: Saint Francis University
HOMETOWN: Exeter, PA
YEAR: Sophomore
POSITION: Forward
Q: What is the single best thing about playing college hockey for your current CHE team?
A: The sheer energy and cohesiveness of the team is easily the best aspect of playing for Saint Francis. Being at a small school, we already knew each other in some way. However, I feel that on this team, there is no gap and everyone has each other's backs.
Q: What is the most-memorable hockey game you have ever been involved in, at any level?
A: The league championship game of my senior year of high school. I scored the first goal of the game, but soon after the opposing team scored to equalize. Those two remained to be the only goals scored in the entire game. The game was sent into overtime, where with 58 seconds left, the opposing team scored to win the championship. Although heartbreaking, this game was easily the most memorable game of my life. The most amazing aspect of it was that my team played at its utmost potential and emotions were high for the entirety of the game.
Q: Are there any routines or rituals you must stick to before every game, such as listening to a certain song?
A: I actually do not have any rituals or superstitions before games.
Q: Which opposing CHE team do you really enjoy playing against, and why?
A: Edinboro. Last year we were evenly matched with them and each game we played with them was full of sportsmanship and great competition.
Q: If you were put in charge of the entire sport of hockey and could change just one thing about the game, what would it be?
A: I would change the rule where icing prohibits the team from changing lines. I understand the reasoning for it, but sometimes a shift can be extremely taxing to the point where I actually need to get off of the ice.
Q: What made you choose to attend your current school?
A: I chose this school for its outstanding academic record, as well as its ability to provide a club hockey team. I am also a devout Catholic and looked for schools with a base in Catholicism.
Q: What is your major and what do you want to do with it after graduation?
A: My major is molecular biology, and I would like to pursue genetic counseling after graduation. Genetic counseling would satisfy two preferences for me. I love the whole field of biology, as well as helping the public. Genetic counselors help the public deal with and plan for genetic defects in either their health or their child's health.
Q: What person outside of your family has done the most for you?
A: Brian Tweedy is probably the most influential person I have met that is outside of my family. He was my coach for two years and taught me to really love and respect the game for what it is. He also taught me to not disrespect the game jerseys by leaving them in a hockey bag. It is because of him that I love this game.
Q: Would you rather be Superman or Batman, and why?
A: Batman, because he is humble and does not show everyone his identity. Throughout life, I have learned to be humble in all that I do.
Q: What are your two favorite apps on your smartphone, and why?
A: My two favorite apps are "theScore" and "Spotify." theScore is favored because it is an all-in-one sports app that gives me updates on current scores and news from around the leagues of my favorite sports. Spotify holds all of my music, which is the reasoning for being favored over my other apps. I listen to music for the majority of the day, and Spotify encompasses all of the different styles of music.
