Richer To Oswego
Kingston Voyageurs netminder David Richer (photo credit - Andy Corneau/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Oswego State University Lakers beginning with the 2016-17 SUNYAC season.
A native of Mirabel, Quebec, Richer took a round-about way in his journey to the OJHL. Playing in the Quebec Midget 'AAA' League as a member of the Saint-Eustache Vikings, Richer was selected by the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the 9th round, 148th overall, of the 2012 QMJHL Entry Draft. Playing two games for the Phoenix in 2012-13, Richer found his way to the Vaudreuil-Dorion Mustangs of the QJAAAHL (now QJHL) in 2013-14 and then on to the Gloucester Rangers of the CCHL last season.
Joining the Vees this past season, Richer tasted early success, posting an impressive 10-2-0 record with three shutouts, tied for tops in the league, and a 2.25 goals against average. His play ultimately saw him named the OJHL Goaltender-of-the-Month in October. Richer went on to finish with an impressive 22-9-1 record with a league-leading five shutouts during the season, including a 2.43 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. He would continue the stellar play in the post-season, leading Kingston to back-to-back sweeps over Cobourg and Markham, before falling in the North-East Conference Championship Series to the eventual league champion Trenton Golden Hawks.
Congratulations to David and best of luck in his NCAA career!
