GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR — You don’t have to tell the Stephenville Junior Red Wings about the difficulty of winning on the road with a short bench.
The Grand Falls Junior Cataracts jogged their memory 22 times over the weekend.
Fresh on the heels of a 16-2 loss Saturday, the Red Wings fell 6-3 Sunday in a Central West Junior Hockey League showdown at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium.
Allan Burton, Josh Huff, Dave Byrne, Neil Oake, Mike Vaters and Travis Champion each bulged the twine in a balanced performance for the Cats.
Mitchell Gallant, Sidney Payne and Adam Green replied for the shorthanded Red Wings, who had just 11 skaters in uniform for the contest after dressing only 12 Saturday.
Tony Parsons earned the win in net, while Nik Morey took the loss.
The following is a closer look at Saturday’s game:
Cats 16, Red Wings 2
The Cats got impressive four-goal efforts from Oake and Travis Curtis in the blowout.
Vaters, Burton and Champion each had two goal games, while Matt Penney and Adam Gaye added a goal apiece to round out the scoring.
Payne and Tim Morey had the loan goals for the Red Wings.
