Junior Jets lose two at home; Red Wings earn weekend split

STEPHENVILLE — There was no home-ice advantage for the Stephenville Junior Jets.

The Jets were beaten twice at the Stephenville Dome as the Central/West Junior Hockey League resumed play over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Jets were defeated 7-2 by the defending champion Central Cataracts on home ice at the Stephenville Dome.

Ken Hickey paved the way for the Cats with a two-goal performance. Jarad King, Kyle Rowsell, Marcus Sampson, Grant Sampson and Travis Champion also scored for the central squad.

Nathan Earle and Johnny Bennett lit the lamp for Stephenville.

One night earlier, the Humber Valley Red Wings eked out a 7-5 win over the Jets.

Ryan Compton, Steve Hobbs, Josh Skinner, Mark McWhirter, Ryan Meade, Dylan Grant and Garrett Thistle supplied the goals for the Red Wings.

Evan Bullen, Jeremy Mitchell, Brandon O’Neil, Skylar Swyers and Nathan Earle scored for the Junior Jets in Saturday’s loss.

The following is a look at other league games played over the weekend:

 

Port aux Basques Junior Mariners 6, Humber Valley Red Wings 2

Brett Robinson was the offensive weapon for Port aux Basques with a goal and three assists in Sunday’s contest at the Bruce II Sports Centre in Port aux Basques.

Greg Edgar, Roger Snow, Cody Musseau, Sid Ransome and Nick Tucker also scored for the Junior Mariners.

Ryan Meade and Josh Skinner supplied the goals for the Red Wings.

 

Central Cataracts 6, Port aux Basques Junior Mariners 4

Jared King and Marcus Sampson scored two goals apiece to lead the offensive attack for the Central Cataracts in Saturday’s tilt at the Bruce II Sports Centre.

Danny Evans and Travis Champion added single tallies to the scoresheet for the visiting squad.

Brett Robinson stole the spotlight for the hometown Mariners with a four-point outing, including a hat trick.

Greg Edgar scored the other goal for the Port aux Basques entry.
