Leriche leads Mariners to sweep of Jets
STEPHENVILLE — Clark Leriche notched a hat trick to lead the Port aux Basques Mariners to an 8-3 victory over the Stephenville Jets Sunday afternoon at the Stephenville Dome.
The Mariners swept the Central/West Junior Hockey League home-and-home series after the league-leading Port aux Basques squad shaded the Jets 5-4 one night earlier before a packed house at the Bruce II Sports Centre in Port aux Basques.
Sid Ransome supported the offence with a two-goal performance in Sunday’s win, while single markers came off the sticks of Greg Edgar, Scott Francis and Brett Robinson.
Josh White, Jordan Decker and Dylan Noseworthy lit the lamp for the hometown Jets.
On Saturday night, Roger Snow scored three goals to lead the charge for the hometown Mariners.
Brett Robinson and Greg Edgar also scored for the victors.
Josh White paved the way for the Jets with a two-goal effort, while Josh Walsh and Sidney Payne rounded out the scoring parade for the Stephenville franchise.
League action resumes this weekend with the Humber Valley Red Wings tangling with the Central Cataracts in a home-and-home series. The two teams will clash Saturday 8 p.m. at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex, while the second game is slated for Sunday 2 p.m. in central Newfoundland at a venue to be announced.
