ROUND ROBIN GAME 5 - RECAP
Georgetown Raiders and the Powassan Voodos lined up for their third and final round-robin game with both clubs having three points to date. For the Raiders Josh Astorino took over from Nick Latinovich in net and forwards Arran MacDonald and Louis Kereakou were inserted into the lineup replacing forward Colin Rigney and blueliner Mitch Brewer. Just one change for the Voodoos with Cade Heard making his first tournament appearance replacing Brett Hahkala. Following the games today one team will be heading home with the second and third place finishers playing Friday and the first place team getting the bye into Saturday's final.
Just like they did in their first game the Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 15-year old phenom Jack Hughes scoring at 4.44 from Matt McJannet who was the hero in the club's shootout victory against Trenton Wednesday night. Hughes, who captained this past regular season the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA team racking up over 230 points had his first OJHL goal in game three of the Buckland Cup Final. A minute and thirteen seconds later Jordan Anderson connected for his first of the tournament from Ryan Takamatsu and Jonathan Hampton. Andy Baker, who had a goal in Wednesday's win over Dryden, got the VooDoos on the board with just over three minutes left to play in the period. Rhys Brown had the lone assist. 2-1 after one with the 'visitors' outshooting Powassan 13-8.
Fifty two seconds into period number two it was tied up as Parker Bowman netted his third of the week with Mr. Brown again getting the only helper. There would be no further scoring until the 15.59 mark when Takamatsu put one past 'keeper Nate McDonald from Jack Jacome and Kereakou. Raiders' broadcaster Alan Corkum calls a goal from him 'the Tak Attack.' Both teams took two minor penalties and Georgetown rang up a 16-10 shot advantage in this frame and clung to a one goal lead heading into the third.
Jacome registered his sixth Dudley-Hewitt point putting the Raiders up 4-2 with only 70 seconds gone off the clock. Austin Cho set up the assistant captain's third goal of the week. It was a big goal for the OJHL champs and they continued to have most of the play as the period rolled along and Hughes scored his second of the matinee on the powerplay from Jacome and Josh Dickinson. Final 5-2 Georgetown. Shots in the final frame were 15-5 and 44-23 overall. Now it's a wait-and-see position for Powassan and the Raiders can finish no worse than second.
