LIDHAMMAR KEEN TO DELIVER IN FLAMES DEBUT SEASON
Guildford Flames forward Mikael Lidhammar says he wants to repay the club for the opportunity to play for them after he signed for the Surrey club.
The 29-year-old Swede has made the move to the Elite League new boys after two years under Marc LeFebvre at Dundee Stars.
And he’s looking forward to the new challenge the Flames will give them in the upcoming season.
“I'm looking forward to the new job at the Flames,” Lidhammar said. “I hope I can repay the trust placed in me with a good performance.
“The team and I will give everything to present the fans in Guildford with a good first season in the EIHL.”
Lidhammar spent all of his career in his homeland, jumping between the top flight SHL and second tier Allsvenskan until first coming to the UK in 2015.
He joined Dundee Stars and became a favourite with the fans, making 125 appearances in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and picking up 52 points over his two years in Tayside.
He also played for the Stars in last season’s play-off finals weekend, for which the Stars qualified for the first time in their history.
His signing is one that comes with experience, especially of the Elite League, which is something that attracted Flames coach Paul Dixon.
“We have tried to get players with speed at every position, and Mikael is no exception,” Dixon said. “He also brings a bit of a physical element in delivering a hard-working, intense effort each and every night.
“Mikael brings a depth of experience from playing at world class level in Sweden’s top flight, while also being very knowledgeable about the UK game.
“That was thanks to a couple of seasons at Dundee Stars and he should play a key role in helping us settle into our new league.”
