BJORKLUND: EIHL EXPERIENCE IS WHY I CAME BACK

Braehead Clan’s latest signing Christoffer Bjorklund says his previous Elite League experience was part of the reason he’s returned to the league.

The Swedish defenceman was part of Paul Thompson’s Sheffield Steelers’ side last season before returning to his native country in February.

But he’s looking forward to a fresh chapter in Glasgow and admits Clan coach John Tripp was someone who impressed him during his negotiations

“After leaving Mora, I took a long time to think about what I wanted to do and when Braehead got in touch, I decided it would be a good place to go,” he said.

“My experience in the league before was part of my decision to sign for Braehead and I spoke to their former goalie, Michal Zajkowski who spoke positively about his time there.

“My recollection of Braehead was them having a great arena to play in and really supportive fans, getting behind the team.

“It was loud when I was there.  For me, it wasn’t intimidating at all and an atmosphere like that gets me going.  That’s where you get that extra percentage to add to your game.

“Speaking with John, he’s a young coach that wants to progress and not a coach that is happy in a comfort zone.  He wants to improve and that’s the kind of coach I want to play for.

“He’s similar to a coach I had in Mora, who had only coached for three years and was the best coach I ever had.

“He had just come from the game and understood a lot of the situations an older coach may not have been familiar with.  I can’t wait to come over and it will be a good season for us.”
