OLD PALS ACT LURES LEONARD TO BELFAST
New Belfast Giants signing Curtis Leonard revealed some insider information persuaded him the Northern Irish city was the place to be next season.
The 25-year-old has signed on for Adam Keefe’s side ahead of the new season with the defenceman slotting into the line-up for 2018/19.
And his close friendship with Darcy Murphy played a part as he became the Giants’ 13th signing of the summer.
“I am good friends with Darcy Murphy and he told me how great the fans and the city of Belfast are - it was a very attractive place to play,” Leonard told A View from the Bridge.
“I am a competitor and I want to win at all costs. I am a team guy who wants to be effective, compete hard and do my job well.”
Leonard made 86 appearances in the ECHL with Fort Wayne Komets, where they came second in the regular season and went all the way to the play-off semi-finals.
He’s also iced for fellow ECHL outfits Reading Royals and Evansville Icemen in his pro career, but has been with the Komets for the last two seasons.
Belfast have announced Leonard will wear the number 10 jersey as well.
