Returning Belfast Giants forward Jonathan Boxill said he’s glad to be back at the club after spending a year away with Milton Keynes Lightning.

The 29-year-old spent two years with Belfast before leaving them for a spell under Pete Russell at Lightning, but has opted to return for 2018-19.

And he admitted that despite being away, he was still in touch with some of his former team-mates.

“I stayed in contact with Steve Thornton, Adam Keefe and some of the team following my two seasons in Belfast and graduating from Ulster University,” Boxill told A View from the Bridge.

“Preparations are well underway for the new season and, thanks to Colin Shields, I have been training hard for 2018/19.

“I loved my time in Belfast and the fanbase is fantastic. “People know how I feel about the city and I am very happy to be back.”

Boxill scored 13 goals and ten assists in 126 games for the Giants during his previous spell between 2015 and 2017 after signing from Nottingham Panthers.

He is also a double silver medallist for the GB national team, having competed in the World Championships in 2015 and 2016.

Boxill returns to the Giants after a season at MK, where he played 57 times and picked up nine points as Lightning missed the play-offs in their first EIHL campaign.
